History of Nightingale Nursing Home
The Nightingale Nursing home was opened in 1949 by Collie Barnett and with life-long friend Barbara Rines, began running the home as a nursing home in Beach Road caring for many patients after the war and building a reputation of caring for the sick in a homely atmosphere. This reputation quickly attracted such luminaries as Arthur Askey, Chesney Alien (of the Crazy Gang ) and Stanley Holloway who died there in 1982.
Collie Barnett retired in the mid-1980s but continued to devote her time to various charities until her death aged 92.
Registered with the Care Quality Commission in categories Old age and Dementia, The Nightingale Nursing home provides long and short term care facilities and our 24 hour a day nursing staff offers the highest levels of quality care in an environment that conforms to the current legislation.
The Nightingale Nursing Home was purchased by Cadogan Care Ltd in 2001 and directors Eleanor Smith and Wendy Marten with the help of their dedicated team of staff, continue to provide a high standard of nursing care including specialist care for Alzheimers and other Dementia related illnesses.
